We actively seek like-minded partners and organizations and believe that great things can happen when people join together to pursue a common purpose. Successful partnerships should be built upon shared principles and values that place people and our planet at the centre. Through these partnerships, we can improve access to technology, share ideas, foster innovation, and promote investment vital for sustainable growth and development. Therefore, wherever possible, we collaborate with partners in and out of our industry to create a positive impact wherever possible.
Viking takes part in 5 partnerships:
We have committed to the use of natural rubber, which has been responsibly and ethically sourced and does not contribute to deforestation.
The production of natural rubber provides income and security for millions of people and families in developing countries. However, rubber production can also negatively impact forests, communities, and workers when not managed responsibly. In some cases, the expansion of rubber production can be a driver of deforestation and forest degradation, including in areas of high conservation value. International organizations have documented cases of poor working conditions, child labour, and social conflicts associated with some rubber tree plantations.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international and independent cooperation that promotes and advocates for socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Rubber products produced from an FSC-certified forest guarantee that harvesting raw materials consideration has been given to the local population, biological diversity, workers’ rights, and social impacts.
We aim to use FSC-certified natural rubber in the construction of our footwear. We hope that our support and dedication to FSC-certified materials will encourage other corporate leaders and institutions to consider committing to sustainably sourced materials as well.
The Circular Children’s Shoe Project is part of DOGA’s Design-driven Innovation Program (DIP). Together with sustainability agency Reform Projects, Viking is exploring how to prolong the lifetime of children’s shoes by designing for circularity. This means designing for easy repair, reuse and recycling.
Our goal is to create a more sustainable approach to children’s shoes by brainstorming solutions for prolonging their lifespan. Using circular design methods and processes and questioning how we can reuse resources in a loop, we can begin to develop services that enable circular business models.
The Viking Reform Lab is located at our head office in Oslo, Norway. It is a dedicated space for innovation and cross-team workshops. Here we bring in a broad range of internal and external competencies, from recyclers, material experts, designers, and product developers who come together to offer diverse perspectives and insights into this complex area. We seek to develop new and innovative solutions through this design-driven research project to guide us toward our sustainability goals.
Viking has started a journey towards becoming a climate-positive company, and our donation program Let’s Save Our Forests is part of that commitment.
Viking has teamed up with Milkywire and environmentalist Michael Waiyaki to plant trees and save existing forests. Michael has a vision of planting millions of trees and educating future generations of environmentalists. Through this initiative, he hopes to combat the devastating effects of climate change due to deforestation, including loss of biodiversity, land erosion, and flooding.
Viking will donate 1% of our e-com gross profit to Michael’s work through Milkywire. You can contribute too. Together we can make a difference.
