For more than 100 years, Viking has been making quality footwear for the whole family, and in recent years we've expanded our range to include children's clothing and outdoor gear. Our products are made to last and be passed on, because quality products can be enjoyed by more than one child – benefiting both the environment and your wallet.
That's why we're inviting you to join Reuse Week 2026 – and we hope you'll take part!
Reuse Week is all about finding the clothes, shoes and outdoor gear you no longer use and passing them on to someone who will. We encourage kindergartens, schools and workplaces to get involved – the more people who take part, the greater the impact.
Go through the clothes and outdoor gear at home: Has your youngest outgrown last winter's snowsuit? Or have this summer's trainers already become too small for next year? Take stock of what you no longer need before Reuse Week begins.
Wash and clean everything: Wash garments according to the care instructions, either by hand or in the washing machine. Clean products are more hygienic, look their best, and are ready for their next owner.
Reproof outerwear and footwear: Reapplying a water-repellent treatment is an easy way to extend the life of your products and help protect them from rain, snow and everyday wear.
Check footwear for wear: Inspect shoes inside and out for signs of wear. Replacing the insoles before passing them on is a simple way to freshen them up for their next owner.
Repair small holes and tears: Minor damage is often easy to fix using self-adhesive repair patches that can be ironed or stuck in place. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying the patch. If needed, trim the patch to size – a circular shape is recommended, as rounded edges are less likely to peel away.
At Viking, you'll find reflective repair patches and replacement foot straps with buttons that can easily be sewn onto rainwear.
Want to extend the life of your own products or your latest second-hand finds? Visit Viking RePair for care, maintenance and repair tips to help keep them in use for even longer.
Tip: You'll also find plenty of repair tutorials and helpful advice on Instagram, TikTok and Google. Search for the repair you need, give it a try, and remember – practice makes perfect. For example, watch this video to see how easy it is to repair a small hole.
When buying or selling second-hand, it's always good practice to be honest about any damage and the overall condition of the product. Being open and transparent helps create a positive experience for both buyer and seller.
Try to limit machine washing whenever possible. In many cases, wiping garments with a damp cloth or rinsing them with water is enough. If machine washing is necessary, always follow the care instructions carefully. Avoid tumble drying and allow garments to air dry instead. After a few washes, reapply a water-repellent spray to restore the protective finish. Close all zips and fastenings, hang the garment outdoors, and apply the spray evenly from a distance of around 20 cm.
Wool naturally repels dirt and odours, so airing garments is often both the easiest and the best way to freshen them up instead of washing them.
As with outerwear, you'll often get great results simply by wiping, rinsing or hosing down your shoes. If a more thorough clean is needed, use a gentle wash programme at a low temperature to help preserve the materials. Remove the insoles and wash them separately in lukewarm water. Place the shoes in a laundry bag, avoid fabric softener, and leave them to air dry with paper inside to absorb moisture.
Because outgrown doesn't mean worn out.
