<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We actively seek like-minded partners and organizations and believe that great things can happen when people join together to pursue a common purpose. Successful partnerships should be built upon shared principles and values that place people and our planet at the centre. Through these partnerships, we can improve access to technology, share ideas, foster innovation, and promote investment vital for sustainable growth and development. Therefore, wherever possible, we collaborate with partners in and out of our industry to create a positive impact wherever possible.</span></p>
<p>In 2021, Viking were a party to six partnerships and networks:</p>

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Responsible Sourcing of Natural Rubber:</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> A commitment together with the global companies Allbirds, Clarks, El Corte Inglés, H&amp;M Group, Hunter, IKEA, Inditex, Patagonia, The North Face, Timberland, Vans, and VF Corporation.</span></li>
<li>Viking’s donating program “Let’s Save Our Forests”: together with Milkywire and impactor Michael Waiyaki.</li>
<li>Outdoor Retailer Climate Commitment (ORCC): along with 10 percent of the outdoor retail market in Germany.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Scandinavian Outdoor Group</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">: A network together with more than 70 outdoor brands from Scandinavia.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">European Outdoor Group:</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> A network together with over 100 outdoor industry members from Europe.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Design-driven innovation project (DIP) &laquo;Circular Children&#8217;s Shoes&raquo;: </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">A project together with sustainability agency Reform Projects.</span></li>

<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Responsible Sourcing of Natural Rubber</span></h3>
<p>Through the Responsible Sourcing of Natural Rubber commitment, we have committed to using responsible and ethically sourced natural rubber and state our preference for sourcing FSC-certified natural rubber when available.</p>
<p>We are pleased that Viking as a company have obtained a FSC Chain-of-Custody certification, signifying our commitment to prevent deforestation, this achievement marks the beginning of our journey towards incorporating FSC-certified materials into our products. We look forward to exploring opportunities to enhance our sustainability efforts and contribute to the responsible sourcing of materials in the future.</p>
<p>While we are at the early stages of this journey, we are actively researching and exploring various avenues to achieve our goal. As we navigate this path, we want to be transparent with our stakeholders about our intentions. We believe that sharing our commitment and progress, even at this preliminary state, is essential. While we may not have tangible results to present just yet, our dedication to change is driving us forward.</p>
<p>The production of natural rubber supports the livelihoods of millions in developing countries. However, inadequate management of rubber production can have negative impacts on forests, communities, and workers. In certain instances, expanding rubber production has been associated with deforestation and forest degradation, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas like Borneo, Greater Mekong, and Sumatra. In addition, international organizations have documented cases of poor working conditions, child labor, and social conflicts associated with some rubber tree plantations.</p>
<p>The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international and independent organization that promotes socially beneficial and economically viable forest management worldwide. Rubber product from FSC-certified forests ensure that the harvesting process considers local population, biological diversity, workers’ rights, and social impacts. Our goal is to incorporate FSC-certified natural rubber into our footwear construction. We aspire to inspire other corporate leaders and institutions with our dedication to FSC-certified materials, encouraging them to adopt sustainable sourcing practices.</p>

<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Design-driven innovation project (DIP) &laquo;Circular Children&#8217;s Shoes”</span></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Circular Children&#8217;s Shoe Project was part of DOGA&#8217;s Design-driven Innovation Program (DIP). Together with sustainability agency Reform Projects, Viking is explored how to prolong the lifetime of children&#8217;s shoes by designing for circularity. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">This means designing for easy repair, reuse and recycling. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Our goal was to create a more sustainable approach to children&#8217;s shoes by brainstorming solutions for prolonging their lifespan. Using circular design methods and processes and questioning how we can reuse resources in a loop, we can begin to develop services that enable circular business models. </span></p>
<p>The project resulted in a 3D model of a modular children&#8217;s shoe in mono-materials that can be repaired, reused and recycled, and that can be used over several seasons, and in different contexts/environments/outdoors. In a circular economic framework, we have together with Reform Projects managed to extend the life of both resources and the product in a system with less environmental impact.</p>
